Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) has announced a suspension of some of its services for two months to allow the institution focus on administering national examinations.

Maneb executive director Professor Dorothy Nampota said in a statement yesterday that the services will be suspended between May 20 and July 19 2024.

Nampota: We have been doing that

The affected services include certificate replacement, certificate by accumulation, certificate upgrading, verification and authentication of certificates, equating of certificates, notification of results slips and international and local academic transcripts.

But in a separate statement, Civil Society Education Coalition (Csec) executive director Benedicto Kondowe said the suspension of services such as certification and verification processes could negatively affect those applying for jobs or admission to universities.

However, speaking in an interview, Nampota said it has always been the practice to suspend other services while examinations are being administered.

She said: “We have been doing that but we noted that people were coming for the services and only to be told that such services have been suspended. So we issued the statement to avoid inconveniencing people.”

Maneb will be administering the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education examinations from May 22 to May 24 2024 and later Junior Certificate of Education examinations from June 4 to June 13 2024 and then the Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations will run from July 2 to July 26 2024.
